Job Description

ROLE:

As a data scientist, you will be responsible for working with a cross functional team of data scientists, developers and data engineers seeking to solve GM's most pressing challenges using AI, Machine Learning, and other Advanced Analytics methodologies. You and your team will be responsible for managing the entire data science lifecycle process across one or more products, from initial investigation, to proof-of-concept development, to productionization and deployment, to final enhancement, hardening and maintenance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work as a member of a cross-functional team to propose and implement high-impact data driven analytic solutions that address business challenges across a variety of business units
  • Apply Data Science and Modeling techniques to drive data driven decision making and solve complex business problems:
    • Create breakthrough solutions, performing exploratory and targeted data analyses
    • Build predictive models and machine-learning algorithms
    • Analyze large amounts of diverse information to discover trends and patterns
    • Undertake preprocessing of structured and unstructured data
    • Monitor and sustain model effectiveness
    • Combine models through ensemble modeling
    • Present complex information using data visualization techniques
    • Work with diverse technical teams and provide data and analytical oversight to ensure project deliverables fulfill business needs and timing
    • Identify long-term technical innovations while continuously improving execution efficiency.


    REQUIREMENTS:

    • A degree in computer science, engineering, statistics, mathematics, physics or a related degree (MS or Ph.D. preferred).
    • A minimum of 7 years working as a data scientist and other cloud-based data science platforms (4 with Ph.D.)
    • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstration working with both business stakeholders and leading and developing more junior scientist team members.
    • Expertise across multiple domains of forecasting, clustering, classification, econometrics, optimization, Bayesian statistics, neural networks, deep learning, natural language processing, and other machine learning and AI methodologies.
    • Expertise in Python, Databricks and other cloud-based data science platforms, and proficiency in SQL.


    Additional Job Description

    Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Austin IT Innovation Center North in Austin TX or Detroit (Warren, or Milford) three times a week, at minimum.

    • Compensation: The expected base compensation for this role is: $128,900 - $198,400 . Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
    • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
