About the Role

My client is an engineering-driven company on a mission to scale their engineering team. They are seeking a Machine Learning Engineer who is excited to be part of the founding story and help build a diverse and vibrant tech community. The ideal candidate should have a strong sense of ownership, enjoy owning projects from inception to scaling in production, and possess expertise in machine learning and artificial intelligence to solve complex engineering challenges. This is an on-site position in the NYC metro area.


What You'll Do

- Collaborate with the team to drive the technical vision and lead discussions and implementation of machine learning projects

- Develop and deploy machine learning models to solve real-world problems and drive business value

- Continuously improve engineering processes, tools, and systems to scale the codebase, productivity, and team

- Contribute to recruiting efforts, conduct interviews, develop interview questions, and foster a culture of excellence, velocity, and humility

- Engage with customers to understand their needs and inspire solutions to their problems


What You Need

- A minimum of 4 years of experience in machine learning engineering or a related field

- Strong background in machine learning algorithms, deep learning, and artificial intelligence

- Proficiency in Python and relevant ML/DL frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch)

- Experience with data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model deployment

- Ability to translate business and product ideas into machine learning solutions

- Desire to continuously grow, master your craft, and focus on customer pain points

- Experience working at a seed to series A stage company (series B experience alone is not sufficient)

- Experience in customer-facing roles (customer service) - not just behind-the-scenes work

- Experience with integrations, fintech, finance, banking, investments, or SaaS background is a plus


Compensation and Equity

- Salary range: $180,000 - $220,000

- Equity (equity-seeking candidates are preferred as it generally translates to being committed to company growth)

About the Company

The founding team consists of multi-time founders with experience in successful exits. They aim to scale to a $3 million - $4 million ARR in the next 12 months. The engineering team is growing and will surpass 7 hires in the next few months.


The interview process consists of three stages:

1. 30-minute intro interview with the CEO/COO

2. Two 30-minute interviews with the product and engineering teams

3. Final round includes meeting the rest of the engineering team and a coding challenge


The interview process will involve two external advisors:

- An advisor who ran a prominent engineering function at Google for 10 years

- An advisor who is the COO of a prominent startup with a PhD in Applied Mathematics and Economics from MIT
