Data Scientist
Summary:
The main function of the Data Scientist is to produce innovative solutions driven by exploratory data analysis from complex and high-dimensional datasets.
The RL MR Mechanical Architecture team is in need of the skills and expertise of a dedicated Data Specialist who would be able to assist us with analyzing data related to the human fitment of MR devices. There are numerous factors that influence and inform the quality of fit for our wearable devices, including the broad variability of humans themselves. A dedicated Data Specialist will help us to parse and query data relating to physical fit and human factors, often involving physical and mechanical behaviors, high volume spatial/3-dimensional data, and motion over time. They will be able to collate and make sense of the data, filtering noise to reveal appropriate signals, discovering trends, correlations, anomalies, etc., and to present the data in a digestible, actionable format.
Job Responsibilities:
• Apply knowledge of statistics, machine learning, programming, data modeling, simulation, and advanced mathematics to recognize patterns, identify opportunities, pose business questions, and make valuable discoveries leading to prototype development and product improvement.
• Use a flexible, analytical approach to design, develop, and evaluate predictive models and advanced algorithms that lead to optimal value extraction from the data.
• Generate and test hypotheses and analyze and interpret the results of product experiments.
• Work with product engineers to translate prototypes into new products, services, and features and provide guidelines for large-scale implementation.
• Provide Business Intelligence (BI) and data visualization support, which includes, but limited to support for the online customer service dashboards and other ad-hoc requests requiring data analysis and visual support.
Skills:
• Experienced in either programming languages such as Python and/or R, big data tools such as Hadoop, or data visualization tools such as Tableau.
• The ability to communicate effectively in writing, including conveying complex information and promoting in-depth engagement on course topics.
• Experience working with large datasets.
Education/Experience:
• Degree in computer science or in a relevant field.
• Top 3 must-have HARD skills:
o Experienced in programming languages such as Python, R, and/or C#; and software tools such as Matlab, Rhino/Grasshopper, and/or Jupyter
o The ability to communicate effectively in writing, including conveying complex information and promoting in-depth engagement on course topics
o Experience working with large datasets, including 3D data (e.g., mesh data, point clouds, spatial/positional data), and motion data/time series, and human data (e.g., anthropometrics, sociological data)
• Good to have skills:
o Experience with mechanics of materials (physical properties) and a familiarity with basic physics
o Experience working within consumer products/hardware development environments
o Experience with Human Factors and/or wearables
