Job Description

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Our Bus Operations Office is seeking a Data & System Analyst to coordinate the planning and analytical functions as well as assist in the overall recommendations and directions to improve the safety performance of the Bus Operations Group.

What will I be doing?

  • Identification of repetitive data trends and bringing forward proposals to improve areas.
  • Support in the development of the monthly and annual KPI’s and provide progress reports.
  • Tracking Customer Complaints based on service changes and driver performance behavior, identifying trends and possible mitigations to improve customer satisfaction.
  • Based on trends in data, providing supporting information and evidence to the Safety & Training Department to help reduce common accidents and trends.
  • Participating in Incident/accident Investigation and providing recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
  • Conducting and/or directing various data analysis and cost/benefit studies of Bus Operations, including interpreting results and outlining trends, as well as developing and recommending alternatives to improve deficiencies and enhance operational efficiencies.
  • Developing, documenting, recommending, implementing, monitoring and evaluating new and/or revised operating and administrative rules, standards and procedures for the department; ensuring that such rules and procedures do not negatively impact safety.
  • Preparing and monitoring performance measures for various aspects of the business to ensure safety, efficiency and quality of services provided.
  • Regular contact with all levels of employees and management staff to provide information, support and recommendations regarding operational and administrative issues, rules, procedures, standards, budgets, etc.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to stakeholders to provide directional guidance and actively leads and participates in various meetings, and represents Metrolinx at committees, presentations.
  • Interfaces with external public agencies, associations and affiliated groups, to stay apprised of industry trends, regulations, and technologies.
  • Coordinates with the Safety Department to ensure the KPI’s are aligned with Corporate Goals and brings forward solutions to negative trends.
  • Coordinates with a variety of internal stakeholders and software developers to establish objectives and performance indicators and develop safety goals, objectives, safety initiatives, action plans, and archiving needs.
  • Works closely with the Safety Department to ensure alignment in all safe practices are adhered and also create recommendations in areas that may require improvements related to safety performance.
  • Investigates or provides close-out of investigations performed by external contractors, coordination or facilitates higher level investigations.
  • Maintaining quality control and engaging in the continuous improvement of service quality and standard operating procedures.
  • Develops and tracks monthly and yearly KPI’s bringing attention to areas that need immediate corrective actions and works with team members to implement and track actions.
  • Manages the oversight of all Bus Operations KPI’s directly related to driver, supervisors, Safety related statistics and trend, amongst others.
  • Presents completed KPI reports to various levels of Staffs and serves as the subject matter expert relating to various trends in injuries, collisions, and provided remedial actions based on findings.
  • Maintains the bus operations control boards.
  • Develops and maintains collisions, injuries, training, etc. dashboards.
  • Supports the development of presentations to Senior Management Team, including deep dives, festivals, BPRs, etc.
  • Provides feedback of findings to Mangers with recommendations to address driving performance issues.
  • Implement initiatives to drive operational efficiency and reduce costs.


What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Educational background in a related field (I.e., data analytics, data processing) or a combination of education and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrated years of experience related to data analytics and/or the implementation of new technology.
  • Experience with investigative review of raw data & converting data into usable charts with solutions to trending problems.
  • Experience in Continuous Improvement programs and process management would be considered an asset.
  • Experience in manipulating and reporting data to draw conclusions and projecting targets to improve efficiency of operations and safety.
  • Demonstrated operational experience to develop standard operating procedures and training material in past and/or current work experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to highlight inefficiencies in operations, building a strong case to demonstrate the findings and recommend changes based on trend setting parameters.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to senior management.
  • Background skills data analysis and root cause analysis.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of statistical tools and excel is required.
  • Project Management experience would be considered an asset.
