What’s New
We are looking for passionate individuals to provide analytic support to several parts of the organization as part of our Analytics and Innovation Rotational Program (AIRP) managed through our Information, Data and Analytics Services (IDAS) function. Our work ensures that economists and researchers in the monetary policy and financial system departments at the Bank of Canada have efficient access to accurate, coherent, relevant, timely and interpretable data. We also provide front-line support and development to support financial markets data for operations and research, and we are building our ability to support the needs of our business administration departments (Human Resources, Corporate Services, Cyber Security, etc.).
The AIRP is a full-time 18-month term program that positions its participants to become future data and analytics change champions across the Bank. The employees of the AIRP participate in two 8-month rotations in different teams, in one or multiple departments, to provide them with the opportunity to explore the use of data in different teams at the Bank; with the remainder of the term being hosted by IDAS to support the employee training and development needs. In addition to their rotations, employees of the AIRP are involved in activities organized through the program management to expand their network, develop their core competencies, and prepare them for future careers in data analytics at the Bank.

What You Will Do
Under the guidance of the AIRP program manager in IDAS and people managers in the hosting teams at the Bank, you will develop, deliver, and maintain meaningful enhancements to data and analytics solutions and prototypes, while employing data analysis best practices and creativity when addressing the needs of your hosting teams.
As a Data And Analytics Specialist, You Will Be
You have good quantitative skills, are strong in at least one statistical/analytic software (e.g., Python, R, etc.) and have an understanding of good coding and DevOps principles. You have experience with data and analytical solution development, and experience in Microsoft Power BI. You are innovative about data and analytic solutions and are able to work collaboratively across a range of partners including analytics experts, solution developers, and end users. You are experienced with translating between analytical goals and technical solutions, emphasizing solutions that best meet the clients’ needs. You have experience developing technical workflows that incorporate automation, enhance data quality and produce easily consumable results.
Your communication skills help build and maintain relationships with clients and colleagues. You are a team player who is comfortable with an agile work environment, contributes to discussions and are optimistic when dealing with changes and conflicts. You solicit cooperation from colleagues, describe your work to a non-technical audience, and are able to set priorities in your development work.
Nice-to-have
The position requires a university degree or college diploma in statistics/mathematics, computer science, economics or related field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

What You Will Do

As a Data And Analytics Specialist, You Will Be
- developing and deploying data and analytic services to client departments or product lines that are of consistently high quality and reflect best practices for solution development, and data modeling, as well as for data quality, visualization, and dissemination
- supporting, enhancing, and integrating existing data and analytical solutions
- providing input to recommendations for client departments on matters of data quality and analytical solutions
- supporting colleagues, engaging in agile team ceremonies, and upholding agile practices
- working jointly with IDAS, ITS and other groups within and outside of the Bank to implement best practices and share knowledge
- preparing and delivering presentations for colleagues in the economic and business departments to demonstrate analytical solutions.
- During this time the employee can:
- Explore and clean new datasets for the team to incorporate in their processes
- Champion a project to automate the generation of a key report
- Liaison with IDAS to develop a data fluency program specialized for the team’s needs
- Facilitate hackathon sessions to create a pipeline of data solutions for the team
- Design and implement a model for calculating a KPI for team’s decision making
- Build an executive insights dashboard for the extended leadership team
- Design process improvements for the team through analysis and modelling of data

- Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $69,300 to $81,530 (job grade 14)
- Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay. The first tier of performance pay is for successfully meeting expectation, at 5 to 7% of your base salary. The Bank offers performance pay for those who exceed expectations (10% of your base salary).. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
