Job Overview

The Compliance Data Analyst is a key contributor in Wawanesa’s second line Enterprise Compliance team. Working under supervision, this role is responsible for supporting compliance oversight activities using a data driven and technology enabled approach. The role performs data extraction, transformation, descriptive analytics, diagnostic analytics, and data automation to assess compliance, monitor key risks, and automate testing at Wawanesa and its subsidiaries.

Job Responsibilities

  • Research, extracts, and manipulates complex and large volumes of data from relevant sources
  • Assesses data quality to evaluate impact on compliance controls, and identify improvement opportunities
  • Synthesizes data to support assessing regulatory risk and identifying potential risks and areas of non-compliance
  • Performs descriptive and diagnostic analytics to support compliance risk assessments
  • Develops dashboards and visualizations to present information to internal and external stakeholders
  • Develops scripts and automations to performing testing of key internal controls
  • Develops and maintains right-sized internal documentation and maintains quality standards
  • Challenges the status quo and pursues continuous improvement opportunities
  • Develops and maintains relationships with stakeholders, and participates in data communities
  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism in handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree with a preference for a combination of technical and business study (such as management information systems)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a data related role, such as data analytics, data management, or other data-related technical equivalent background.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and experience with database systems such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and Redshift is required
  • Experience with data visualization tools, such as Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik is considered an asset
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python is considered an asset
  • Experience with reporting tools such as MicroStrategy, Cognos, or SSRS is considered an asset
  • Experience with the AWS cloud environment and relevant tools (Athena, Glue, Lambda, S3) is considered an asset
  • Experience with low-code automation systems, such as Power Automate is considered an asset
  • Experience in P&C/Life insurance or financial services is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Bilingualism (French and English) would be considered an asset.
