Position Summary: The Associate Data Scientist, Basketball Data Strategy is a critical member of the Basketball Data Strategy team. Reporting to the Director, Basketball Data Strategy and supporting the Data Scientist, Basketball Data Strategy, they will develop, test, and maintain predictive models and metrics for player evaluation, roster construction, and in-game strategy. They will create data visualizations to assist in the consumption of results, and perform crucial data maintenance and upkeep operations. The Associate Data Scientist will primarily work under the direction of the Data Scientist and collaborate with other members of the Basketball Data Strategy team to provide tools needed for team success.
Essential Functions (Duties & Responsibilities)
Bachelorâs degree in Statistics or a related field, or equivalent academic or professional experience
Minimum Qualifications
Travel: Less than 5% of the time
Hours: Full-time. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as reasonably required
The pay range for this role is $70,000 to $80,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience and certifications.

Essential Functions (Duties & Responsibilities)
- Utilize data mining, statistical analysis, machine learning, and predictive modeling techniques to provide data solutions for Basketball Operations
- Integrate new statistical analyses, models and data visualizations into existing and new applications
- Originate innovative ways to analyze / summarize data from existing and new stakeholders (e.g. G League)
- Operate in both the ad-hoc and the long-term, creating new research and sustainable solutions as necessary
- Manipulate and leverage large data sets to enable statistical analyses of the data; source, process, and understand new datasets that may aid in potential evaluations
Bachelorâs degree in Statistics or a related field, or equivalent academic or professional experience
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience with statistical analysis tools (e.g., R, Matlab, Tensorflow, Scikit-learn) and relational database (e.g., SQL Server); willingness to work with geolocation tracking data
- Experience with modern techniques in machine learning (e.g., clustering, regression modeling, decision trees, time series analysis, boosting, PCA), ability to up-learn on enterprise systems and technologies
- Experience with large data sets (e.g., millions of rows); experience with techniques to algorithmically analyze and display spatial datasets preferred
- Experience with technologies and tools to clearly and aesthetically deliver insights
- Strong communication skills
- Understanding of all phases of the data science cycle (querying data, cleaning data, exploratory analysis, model development, model refinement, analysis of results, presentation)
- Adaptable, eager to self-learn new technical skills
- Knowledge of and passion for NBA basketball
